Ranston (Ray) Foster
Ranston (Ray) Foster started with the Department of Nutritional Service in 1994 at Metropolitan Hospital Center, was later promoted to a Clerical Associate, and then Assistant Coordinating Manager in the Department of Central Sterile Processing. Since 2007, Ray has been a Coordinating Manager LvB in the Department of Endoscopy.
In 2013, Ray was elected by his peers as a Shop Steward, where he represented more than 100 members, advocating for their rights and representing them at disciplinary hearings, counselling sessions, and verbal meetings. His goal as a Shop Steward was not only to elevate his knowledge of labor relations and the HR processes, but also to get a better understanding of the overall significance of fair and equitable treatment for Local 1180 members.
Throughout the years, Ray focused on learning what it means to represent Local CWA 1180 members. With the guidance of his Staff Representative, Ray absorbed some real lessons regarding the importance of union roles and responsibilities. From 1994 to 2020, he has seen a great deal of change within the working environment, but one thing that remains constant is Local 1180's dedication and commitment to fighting for workers’ rights and fair wages. Ray's commitment to members is unwavering, his support of Local 1180's goals is strong, and his patience and determination to protect the members are fierce.
Ray is a successful 2017 graduate of both the School of Professional Studies Certificate Program and Cornell University Leadership Certificate Program in Labor Studies.
